If I could give less than 1 star, I would have. As a loyal customer of 14 years, I was shocked to receive a notice in the mail that Nationwide was threatening to cancel my homeowners policy due to my roof having natural discoloration and loose organic matter. Coincidentally, this letter came 3 days after a storm chasing roofing contractor came to my property offering an assessment. When I requested photos of the satellite imagery of the roof (and “storm damage” the contractor who visited referenced), I was told I did not have access to the document vault where they were stored. I was told by my agent that anything less than roof replacement would lead to termination of my policy. They said Nationwide is trying to reduce their exposure and that I should look elsewhere for coverage. I ment

Absolutely the worst experience you can imagine. In the one instance our family had a homeowners claim in almost 40 years with them they did their level best to minimize what they needed to pay while having us jump through multiple hoops to maintain coverage. Constantly jacked up our auto insurance rates so we canceled those policies, and then when we wanted to change our homeowners over to a new assigned owner, they dragged their feet and ignored our attempts to communicate. To add insult to injury, we've sent them requests to cancel the only remaining policy with them which they're ignoring while they keep constantly sending us emails to fill out documents so they can autodraft our accounts and renew the homeowners policy under the previous owners name.
