If you are looking for a health insurance provider that combines the communication skills of a brick wall with the billing consistency of a casino, then Mountain Health CO-OP is the choice for you. ​I’ve long understood that the insurance industry is a "den of thieves," but Mountain Health manages to stand out in an already crowded field of mediocrity. I officially cut ties with Mountain Health Co-op in 2025, and I am still battling with customer service over claims. If you enjoy paying monthly premiums for the privilege of being ignored, gaslit, and financially stressed, then this is the provider for you. I spent more time fighting for basic coverage than I did actually recovering from my ailments. Every call resulted in contradictory answers, and I was billed incorrectly for over half of my visits in the year. It felt like a nightmare to get these corrected and reach someone who could actually help me. Although representatives are plesant on the phone, I often felt like I was misled and misguided, causing me hours of frustration and stress.

We've been with them a year and it was a year where there was a lot of medical activity. Satisfied with the plan, it's high deductible but in this environment, it is what it is. Very happy with the service. They have been responsive and available to answer questions.

This is a tough review to write, as I genuinely had great experiences with Mountain Health Co-Op in years prior. Once they moved to a new system in 2024 it all started to go downhill. I have to call to get routine appointments covered at my primary care physician. They deny coverage to prescribed medication and make you go through a month-long appeals process for necessary, prescribed pharmacy meds. It’s the full deny, delay, defend playbook on display. This will be our last year with this insurance firm.

We have been with mountain health coop for about 8 years and for most of that time I have raved and told everyone I could about how great they were. But in the middle of 2024 they changed to a new system and everything changed. Customer service used to be amazing and local. Now when I call it’s a call center in Florida and no one ever has any idea what’s going on. They went out of network with a major hospital September 1, 2024 with no warning to their members. Which has left us with multiple bills for a procedure and dr visits as out of network. They are no help when you call and try to explain how wrong it is to do that to your members mid year with no warning. We check doctors and hospitals at the beginning of every year before we enroll to make sure the ones we need are in network, and
