Customer Reviews
whole life customer for 19 years. over the years there has been no easy way to manage my policy. I had bought whole life policies for my whole family at the time and it was ALREADY an annoyance for them to sell my children's policy to Brighthouse and make it impossible to manage all the policies conveniently. "visit your policy details online", but the website doesn't even update with live details until 3 months later. I can't even download my anniversary statement or my annual billing statement. their phone system, "amelia", is an absolute joke and waste of time. If you don't immediately provide your policy number and SSN in 1 second intervals, amelia immediately hangs up on you and puts you through hell again. And when resorting to paper mail when all else fails, they manage to cash y
I appreciated the swift approval of our life insurance claim. However, the archaic practice of putting a sizable check in the US mail is ridiculous. The first check got lost in the mail and after 6 phone calls & 3 weeks later, a new check was issued. Despite being given a FedEx account to use to send the check overnight, it was sent by regular US mail again despite the assurance that my FedEx account would be used. My experience shows MetLife’s lack of a commitment to providing good customer service at a very difficult time for my family.
This company is an absolute joke. I have been trying to close a beneficiary claim that was started in June (it is now almost Dec). Call agents confirm all necessary documents were received. Every other call, I am told the claim will be "expedited" and completed in 5-7 business days. Then, the next time I call, I am told there is no timeline for payment and nothing they can do to give me one. I am being given a run-around by Met Life and they are delaying this process intentionally. Complaints have been opened with BBB and Dept of Commerce.
The MetLife building (previously the Pan Am building), iconic above Grand Central, straddling Park Avenue. It's more than one company headquartered inside, now, as MetLife sold the building but kept the naming rights in the 2000s.
DO NOT get dental insurance from them. I had two cleanings and then two weeks later a tooth became loose so I went back. That exam was NOT covered bc of the cleanings. Had to pay the entire exam out of pocket.
