Avoid GEHA. After five years of membership, 2025 saw a massive decline in their standards. Between denying valid claims and mislabeling in-network providers, they have become a nightmare to navigate. The staff is equally frustrating; many don't understand basic policy terms and are incredibly dismissive. Switching away was a huge relief. You’ve been forewarned.
Seriously the amount of hurdles you have to go through to get reimbursements for a simple dental cleaning is ridiculous. After 1 hour on the phone, the best I got was I have to submit my dental claim to 2 different email addresses. Then they wonder why we have problems with insurance companies. I’ve literally have asked for nothing except an annual cleaning reimbursement and they won’t reimburse for that. Highway robbery!!!!
The recent changes has made everything a nightmare! They issued new member ID numbers without warning. Now all my providers are trying to charge me as if my insurance doesn’t cover anything. The call reps can’t help with anything. Multiple reimbursements are pending, lost, can’t be seen, etc it’s a true nightmare.
We’ve had GEHA for a number of years. Recently, they’ve made changes and issued all new member id numbers. All previous prior authorizations are wiped out. My only notice is the provider cancelling my appointment the day before. The representatives are friendly but aren’t able to help at all, they can’t see anything themselves before January 1st. They want you to be flexible and understanding, not realizing the only alternative they are proposing is at least a 30 day delay of services.
I have had GEHA for a number years. Overall I was happy with them until now. Recently there was a problem with my insurance coverage of my medication. Finding someone who was knowledgeable /caring enough to find the problem and offer an effective solution has been s nightmare. Extremely frustrated and even angry. But there are three ladies who definitely did a lot to help. Nathalie . Joan. Heather. Very different from others who do nothing and connect you with an imaginary advocate/representative who can help you.
