Colonial Life - Insurance

The Colonial Life representative for my company said you could use the short term disability policy for maternity coverage. I had my baby and submitted my paperwork to Colonial. It took them less than a week to respond to my claim and only paid out 4 weeks of coverage (even though their policy says a minimum of 6 weeks coverage for maternity). In their letter they said Colonial is able to claim 14 days of an "elimination period" to process my claim in which those 14 days they do not have to pay out. This was never communicated to me until I received this letter, additionally they did not use 14 days to process my claim but still used 14 days of my paid leave. Extremely disappointed in the lack of professionalism through this company. I met with an agent to get signed up for an insurance plan and provided all of the necessary information. I even gave them my bank information to automatically withdraw money from my account. Turns out they never took the money out, never followed up with me and now can't honor my plan. And yet somehow this is my fault because as the client, I didn't notice or reach out. It baffles me that a company who would want my business (and money) never bothered to reach out and follow up on my plan. What I now want to know is where did my bank information end up? Is it laying around somewhere because someone on their end didn't do their job and file it properly or what happened? I was basically told by my previous rep that

If you thinking about getting colonial life insurance “DONT” you will waste you money. I paid into life policy’s for over 2 years. Then I got sick and had to go on dialysis. Now I’m disabled they denied my claim because I seen a doctor about kidney failure because it runs in my family really bad. I was never treated but because I was seen or counseled they can’t pay. And now I can’t pay for the insurance they gonna kick me off

Fell from a ladder, broke my leg and ankle. Spent 4 days in ICU. And they decline my claim. What's the purpose of having accident insurance if they are just going to decline my claim when I am injured from an accident. Not worth it. I will take my business elsewhere.

The company office in Jacksonville is a joke!! No one calls you back or helps. Time to cancel and find a better company.
