AKC Pet Insurance

I am grateful for AKC pet insurance. My dog had coverage with AKC for most of her life. Every time I called, the customer service reps were helpful and took the time to explain why charges were or were not covered. I made adjustments to coverage options over the years to fit our needs and budget. There were a few years that I switched coverage to another company. AKC did not hassle me when I wanted to cancel and said I was always welcome to come back, which I did. I was always grateful not to worry about the cost of care my dogs needed and to know reimbursements were handled promptly. I recommend AKC pet insurance to all my friends, family, and coworkers.

I am very pleased with how easy it was to file a claim for my dog, who needed to go to urgent care, and then follow up with our own vet. My dog needed blood work and medication. Because this was my first claim, AKC requested the medical records for my dog. They contacted my veterinarian to email the records to them directly. Everything was completed within a couple of days. Their turnaround time was as promised on their website. I'm satisfied with the experience I had.

I had AKC pet insurance for both of my French Bulldogs for 8 years. I had "unlimited" companion care and the first year it was approximately $2,100.00 per year for both dogs. I didn't make any claims for the first 7 years, not one but yet by the 7th year it was nearly $5,000.00 per year. I didn't know I had to cancel so it auto renewed for my 8th year it the rates had increased even another 30%. I had two emergencies within a week of each other, one for each dog. One dog had a hematoma that had to be drained (3 times) and my other dog and a bad infection caused from an unknown diarrhea episode. After going to the vet for both dogs we were set back approximately $2,500.00. I made a claim and sent in all the bills(keep in mind I had NEVER made a claim in 8 years). AKC gave me $58.00! This

If I could give this ZERO stars, I would. Let me start by saying this I NEVER once read anywhere in the quote, or anything on their website when reading about pet insurance and how they cover pre existing conditions all this other stuff, that if your pets over the age of 9 are put into the category of “accident only” instead of full insurance, even with the add on packages you’ll get “accident only” you won’t get covered for anything that your pet has even after 365 days unless it’s a “accident” I had high hopes for this pet insurance especially with it being on that covered pre existing conditions, but didn’t realize they put my senior cat into an “accident only” placement, then they NEVER discussed anything regarding her coverage or explanation of benefits until I called them asking why

Stay away, they have the worst claims department. NO ONE and I cannot stress this enough NO ONE in the claims department is capable of making an intelligent decision even if presented with evidence from a veterinarian, not once, but twice! They also had the entire medical history of the pet. We provided them with two letters from the veterinarian stating that there were indeed TWO DIFFERENT cysts and even a diagram from the veterinarian indicating the location of each cyst. AKC pet insurance is underwritten by Independence American Insurance Company and Independence Pet Insurance Company. I’m not sure who the people in the claims department work for, so, I am also sending a link to this review and the evidence to the underwriting companies.
